On February 20, the SGSA participated at Stanford's I-Gala (International Gala), a showcase event held at the Arrillaga Alumni Center where different international student groups present exhibits and food from their home country.

Ever pragmatic, the SGSA participated with a uniquely Middle-European dessert: high-quality chocolate. Over the course of an hour, four dedicated volunteers (Christiane Chen, Holger Knublauch, Gary Gaukler, and Dirk Riehle) handed out samples of German and Middle-European chocolate to an enamoured public.

The team stomached, literally, a mad onrush. At times overwhelmed, we witnessed little children asking honestly for chocolate, while less formally inclined participants tried to reach over the children and grab chocolate in bunches.

Commented one neutral observer: "At times, it was crazy. I did not know that Stanford students could resemble sharks in a feeding frenzy so easily."

At the time of the greatest onslaught, a visit by Alterspraesident Jan Benjamin Pietzsch visibly cheered up the team and helped us succeed in a place where no other team had gone before.

In the end, we handed out about 10kg of chocolate and cookies over the course of an hour, hitting the closing bell exactly right. We are glad to have participated in the I-Gala and intend to return in a year from now, wearing more sturdy clothing though.
