Dear CHOOSE member: We are glad to invite you to a talk given by Richard McClatchey and Jean-Marie Le Goff on "The Role of Design Patterns and Meta-Models in Integrating Product and Process Models." The presentation will be given in English. It is free for CHOOSE members and invited guests. Best regards, The CHOOSE Board =================================================================== The Role of Design Patterns and Meta-Models in Integrating Product and Process Models =================================================================== Wednesday, September 15th, 1999, 17:15h University of Bern, Room 002 Engehaldenstrasse 8, 3012 Bern Travel instructions: http://www.iam.unibe.ch/English/Texts/finding.html Speakers -------- Richard McClatchey Director, Centre for Complex Cooperative Systems, UWE Jean-Marie Le Goff EP Division, CERN, 1211 Geneve 23, Switzerland Agenda ------ 17:15 Presentation (about 1h) Abstract ----------- In data modelling, product information has most often been handled separately from process information. The integration of product and process models in a unified data model could provide the means by which information could be shared across an enterprise throughout the system lifecycle from design through to production. Recently attempts have been made to integrate these two separate views of systems through identifying common data models (and meta-models). This presentation relates description-driven systems to multi-layer architectures and reveals where existing design patterns facilitate the integration of product and process models and where patterns are missing or where existing patterns require enrichment for this integration. It reports on the construction of a so-called description-driven system which integrates Product Data Management (PDM) and Workflow Management (WfM) data models through a common meta-model. The vehicle for the current study of product and process integration is a project entitled CRISTAL which is being developed by a large international collaboration at CERN to manage the construction of complex apparatus for high energy physics experiments. Registration ------------ Please let us know that you will come by filling in the form below and by sending it to mailto:choose-events@riehle.org. You can directly reply to this e-mail (but please don't use reply-to-all, which will go to the whole list). Thanks!
